Emmett Gavin, O.Carm.
Father Emmett is a Carmelite priest currently assisting in parish ministry at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Tenafly, N.J., where he resides. He is a civil and canon lawyer and served as an attorney with the federal government for 13 years before joining the Carmelites in 1981. He was ordained in 1987 and received his canon law degree in 1991.
He has worked in parochial and canonical ministry over the years and has served as treasurer, formation director, a member of the provincial council and canonist for his religious community. He has also served as a judge in several tribunals and as Adjutant Judicial Vicar for the Archdiocese of Newark and Vice Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Father Emmett serves on both the Strategic Planning and Advocacy Committees of Peace Ministries.
